In Memoriam: George Root III (1967-2019)
We are saddened to inform you of the passing of The Floyd Concept's founder, George N. Root III, on Wednesday, March 7, 2019.
"George N. Root III was the founder and lead guitarist of the Pink Floyd tribute band Hey You.
The band lasted nearly ten years. During that span Hey You was nominated several times for the Buffalo Music Awards, winning Best Tribute Band in 2010. Hey You dissolved at the end of 2012.
George and I remained good friends throughout the years. We always talked about restarting the Pink Floyd tribute band under a new name with a new vision. Our goal was to become one of the best Pink Floyd tribute bands in the Western New York area, eventually becoming a national act. We came up with name The Floyd Concept. We wanted to go back to the roots of Pink Floyd covering the early years of Syd Barrett to the later years of Division Bell. The Floyd Concept was started in the fall of 2016.
George was a great friend and great leader always putting the band before himself. George and I always talked until late in the night of our dreams and goals for The Floyd Concept.
George truly loved playing his guitar, always loved playing Pink Floyd. He was a 2018 Nightlife Music Awards nominee for "Best Rock Guitarist".
He also loved the drive-in and Godzilla. Every Friday you could find him there.
But mostly George loved and talked about his family, the love he had for his wife Amy and his children, and grandchildren. Amy was his rock.
George Root III will be missed. His spirit and passion of Pink Floyd will live on in The Floyd Concept."
